Safe and Responsible use of Personal Learning Device(PLD)

In Greenridge, we believe in developing our students to be future-ready as learners and as leaders. To ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for all students, students are expected to abide by the school’s code of conduct which includes but is not limited to the following:

General Guidelines and User Ethics

A personal learning device (PLD) refers to any smart device including personal laptops, tablets that are owned by students or on loan from the school’s ICT department.

You are responsible for your personal devices and accountable for all activities carried out with your devices. Use of PLDs is to be consistent with school’s curriculum and instructional goals. Balance your time between online and other activities. Do not spend most of your free time online. Give your eyes a 5 to 10 minute break from the computer after 30 minutes of usage. should not post your personal data like NRIC, address, telephone number, computer passwords and personal details online for all to see. Do not infringe on the intellectual property of others. Avoid meeting a cyber pal face-to-face without first discussing with your parents/guardian to obtain permission. If you have to meet the person, get some friends to go with you. Do not meet at an isolated or quiet place, like parks. When chatting or posting online, follow THE rule. T – Type your message. Do not use all capital letters. H – Hold on! Does your message sound rude, offensive, upset others or damage the school image? E – Edit the message if necessary before submitting / posting it online. Re-post and forward the good information, not the offensive ones.

Responsible Use of School Computing, Personal Learning Devices (PLD), ICT Accounts, Mobile Phones, Smart Watches and Other Electronic Communications/Gaming Devices
We use school computing devices, PLDs and our user accounts for the purpose of learning. PLDs should be fully charged at home and be readily available for lessons. When PLD is not in use, we should place it at a corner or in the compartment under our desk. When we need to leave our class (e.g. for recess or lesson that does not require PLD), our PLD should be locked in our lockers. To conserve battery for lessons, we do not use our PLD during recess and lunch. We must focus on learning and school programmes. Therefore, we do not use our mobile phones, smart watches or other electronic communication / gaming devices during school hours including recess, lunch, CCA and after-school programmes (e.g. remedial lessons, supplementary, enrichment within and beyond school premises). We will ensure that such devices are switched off and placed in the assigned locker throughout the day or in our bags during CCA and for enrichment programmes beyond the school premises. We may use our mobile phones and smart watches only when we leave school premises or when permission is granted by a school staff with staff supervision. In the event of a family emergency during lesson time, our family can contact the school General Office to relay the message to us. We do not use learning devices and ICT accounts for cyberbullying or pornography. We do not use them to commit other unlawful activities such as breaking copyright laws, phishing and carrying out scams. Recording of any incidents or events that happen in school with any electronic or digital devices are strictly prohibited unless given permission by the school authorities. Unauthorised use of PLD, mobile phone, smart watch or any electronic device will result in either being barred from bringing the device to school, or the safe-keeping of the device (include SIM for mobile phone) by the school. Parents will need to personally collect confiscated items from school.

If student is found with barred device during the debarment period, school will either send student home with the barred device or confiscate the device for the outstanding period of debarment. !!Confiscated items are to be collected only by parents.
